Inverters offer Solution for Module-Level Power Electronics

July 08, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Fronius USA has announced a new product that is expected to significantly simplify system design and installation while delivering maximum energy harvest from complex arrays. The Fronius FE Series will support an architecture using module-level power electronics (MLPE) and is claimed to be the most bankable of all MLPE technologies currently available. This innovative solution eliminates the need for specialty cabling or stand-alone boxes and the technology is directly integrated into the FE Series inverter. The inverter available in power ranges in residential and commercial applications from 3.0kW to 12.0kW. The Fronius FE Series will be available for order at the beginning of September.

The new Fronius FE Series will feature an integrated system designed for a full system solution to both string inverter power and module-level monitoring. The FE Series is an industry-first for string inverter technology. "We believe that this strategy will provide the most seamless and bankable solution for customers while setting an industry standard," said Thomas Enzendorfer, Director of Solar Energy Division, Fronius USA. "It provides a strong opportunity to add value to the solar ecosystem by combining both module and inverter control onto a single platform."

The Fronius FE Series pairs seamlessly with retrofit optimizers or smart modules and significantly reduces labor, complexity and additional boxes. The optimized architecture enables enhanced design flexibility, reduces shading effects, improves safety, provides module-level monitoring, and maximizes energy production.
