Intersil Releases ISL6420 PWM Controller/Driver IC

March 01, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new Endura™ ISL6420 single-phase, synchronous-buck, pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller with integrated MOSFET drivers, which integrates control, protection, monitoring and output adjustment in one small 4 mm x 4 mm, quad flat no-lead package. The ISL6420 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including core power for FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, embedded controllers and microprocessors, as well as for Ethernet routers and switchers, distributed dc-dc conversion, and tracking external-reference buck converters.

Single feedback, loop-voltage, mode control of the ISL6420 provides fast transient response. The output voltage can be precisely regulated to as low as 0.6 V, with a maximum tolerance of ±1.0 percent over temperature and line voltage variations. The switching frequency is fully adjustable from 100 kHz to 1.4 MHz providing a wide range of design discretion. The ISL6420 includes a high-performance error amplifier that features a 15 MHz gain bandwidth product and a 6 V/µs slew rate that enables high converter bandwidth for fast transient response and a clean dc output.

The ISL6420IR is available now onntape and reel. The price in 100-unit to 999-unit quantities is $1.42 for each IC.
