Intersil Intros ISL6537/ISL6506 Regulator Chip Set

February 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced two new Endura™ power regulator ICs designed to provide reduced bill-of-materials, manufacturing costs, board space, and routing problems for the next-generation, Intel-based computing platforms. The ISL6537 and ISL6506 regulate six different PC motherboard voltages with full Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) compliance, and deliver high performance-to-price value for leading-edge, high-end workstations, servers and PCs. The ACPI specification enables system power components to be software controlled in real time to improve power and operating system efficiency.

The ISL6537 and ISL6506 offer regulation of six motherboard voltages (the DDR memory core, DDR termination, chip set core, 5 V (dual), 3.3 V (dual), and CPU bus termination voltage). While the ICs can be used separately, the two as a set offer performance improvement along with space and cost savings. The ISL6506 complements the ISL6537, providing the 5 V (dual) that the ISL6537 requires for down-conversion to the DDR core and the other voltages.

The ISL6537 and ISL6506 are available now. The suggested resale price in 1,000-unit quantities is $1.90 for each ISL6537CR IC, which are available on tape and reel. The suggested resale price in 1,000-unit quantities is $0.65 for each ISL6506CB IC, $0.65 for each ISL6506ACB IC and $0.75 for each ISL6506BCB IC, which are available on tape and reel.
