Intersil Debuts Endura ISL6563 PWM Controller IC

October 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new Endura™ ISL6563, a new high-performance, two-phase, synchronous-buck, pulse-width modulated (PWM) controller IC that integrates 2A MOSFET drivers in a thermally enhanced 4mm x 4mm quad flat no-lead package. The ISL6563 is a single-chip, high-current, high-efficiency CPU core controller for Intel® VRM9 and VRM10, as well as AMD Athlon™, Athlon™ XP, Opteron™, and Athlon™ 64 processor-based motherboards.

The ISL6563-based power solution operates from a 5V or 12V bus to deliver VID-controlled voltages in a current range up to 80A. It is suitable for desktop PCs, workstations, servers and the emerging desknote, or transportable PC market, where high-power desktop CPUs are used in a notebook PC chassis. The ISL6563 addresses 90% of Intel and AMD motherboards that require CPU multiphase power conversion because of its "all-in-one VID" input and on-chip, high-current, MOSFET drivers.

All versions of the ISL6563 are available now. The suggested resale price for each IC in 1,000-unit quantities is $1.65 for the ISL6563CR. All are available on tape-and-reel.
