Interpoint Announces MSM Series of DC/DC Converters

December 05, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Interpoint Corp. (Redmond, WA) announces the MSM Series of dc/dc converters delivering up to 5W from a 28V input in a surface-mountable package. Interpoint claims that the new converters have reliable power operation over the full military temperature range of –55 degrees C to 125 degrees C.

The MSM Series uses commercially-available discrete components, printed wiring board construction and surface-mount technology. It is designed to keep costs at a minimum while providing a maximum weight of 20 grams in a package measuring 2.01" x 2.01" x 0.312". The package can be surface-mounted or hand-soldered. Output voltages of 3.3, 5, 5.2, 12, 15, ±12, or ±15 operate from an input range of 16Vdc to 40 Vdc.

The MSM Series of converters features a magnetic isolator, designed with feed-forward and load correction. An inhibit function for remote shut-down and restart provides added functionality. Protection features include under-voltage lockout and soft-start to prevent start-up problems; short-circuit and overload protection to limit current draw and prevent damage to the converter; and transient protection of 80V for up to 120 milliseconds. The MSM2815D, with dual 15V output, is available now in quantities of one to five for $80 each.
