International Rectifier Releases the IRU3037 Synchronous Buck Controller IC

May 02, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) recently released the new IRU3037 synchronous buck controller IC. The new device includes a soft-start feature designed to allow smooth start-up from idle to decrease transients caused by inrush current and overshoot. The new control IC enables single-supply operation from 5V or 12V inputs, with an input range of 4V to 25V. The IRU3037 is fully protected with output under-voltage detection that latches off the device when an output short is detected.

Reza Amirani, vice president of marketing, dc/dc control ICs, said, "Today's high-performance embedded processor products require 1.8V and lower supply voltages with current in excess of 3A. The new IRU3037 can team up with IR's small outline HEXFET power MOSFETs to create a complete synchronous buck converter for 1.8V-output, 5V- or 3.3V-input systems."

Pricing for the new IRU3037 is $0.90 each in 1,000-unit quantities. The IRU3037CF is housed in the low-profile TSSOP-8 package, and the IRU3037CS is housed in the SO-8.
