International Rectifier Releases New AC/DC HEXFET Power MOSFETs

July 02, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (El Segundo, CA) has introduced the new ac/dc HEXFET power MOSFETs, designed specifically for offline switch-mode power supply applications. The new MOSFETs combine a simplified mass-manufacturing process platform with an application-specific approach to product development.

The new devices offer outstanding performance for zero-voltage switching and hard-switching converters. The new zero-voltage switching and hard-switching specific devices are targeted for ac/dc converters for power supplies in next-generation Internet network servers and telecom systems. Rather than forcing a designer into using a single product, the company's product platform is intended to provide designers with a wide choice of devices; optimized for hard-switching circuits, or designed specifically for zero-voltage switching designs.

According to Carl Blake, technical marketing manager, "Extensive research and development efforts helped us understand all switching characteristics in switch-mode power supply designs. We feel that it is necessary to design power devices for specific applications so that selected device parameters can be optimized to achieve system design targets."

Pricing for the new MOSFETs begins at $1.67 each in quantities of 10,000. The devices can be sampled by contacting normal sales channels. Volume production is scheduled for July 2000.
