IFR Systems Distributing New Kikusui PIA4800 Power Supply Controller

May 17, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

IFR Systems Inc. (Wichita, KS) announced that the new Kikusui (Japan) PIA4800 Series of power supply controllers is now exclusively available in the US through them. The PIA4800 Series includes the PIA4810 power supply controller for analog and digital control, the PIA4820 expansion unit and the PIA4830 digital power supply controller.

These instruments were designed for automated test or burn-in applications and are suitable for use in systems that require control of a large amount of dc power supplies, or in situations where the control computer is located a long distance from the testing or burn-in location.

The company claims that the incorporation of the PIA4820 via twisted pair bus provides for easier installation of expansion units in blocks of eight to a total of 32 channels and a maximum distance from the main controller, or last expansion unit, of up to 200m. The modular design of the slot-in-system makes it possible to add more dc power supplies or electronic loads. Equipped with one GPIB address, the PIA4800 Series is capable of controlling up to 32 dc power supplies or electronic loads. Using multiple expansion units and combining the GPIB and twisted pair bus allows the system to control a maximum of 448 channels. The unit includes an RS-232 interface and can use either a GPIB or RS-232 connection to the computer. The PIA4800 Series is able to use two types of control boards (single- or full-control) and includes a shut-down input feature allowing all dc power supply outputs to be turned off at the same time in case of emergencies.
