High-Voltage Automotive MLCCs Rated for 630-3000V

AVX Corporation has added a new series of high-voltage multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) to it automotive product lineup. Qualified to AEC-Q200 and available in chip sizes spanning 1206 to 2220, the new X7R high-voltage automotive MLCCs are rated for voltages spanning 630V to 3000V and capacitance values spanning 100pF to 0.15µF. Exhibiting low ESR, excellent performance across all voltages, and FLEXITERM® terminations for enhanced mechanical reliability, the series is suited for use in high-voltage automotive electronics in both standard and hybrid electric vehicles, especially as snubbers, resonators, filters, and dc blocking caps in high-voltage multipliers, high-frequency power converters, and switch mode power supplies.

“Our new high-voltage automotive MLCCs not only satisfy high voltage systems design engineers’ desire for small, high value, low leakage capacitors, but also exhibit low ESR and enhanced mechanical reliability, providing them with a broad range of high-reliability, application-specific solutions,” said Mark Obuszewski, business manager at AVX.

Rated for operating temperatures spanning -55 to +125 degrees C, the high-voltage automotive MLCC Series is commercially available in six voltages: 630V, 1000V, 1500V, 2000V, 2500V, and 3000V and five chip sizes: 1206, 1210, 1808, 1812, 1825, and 2220; however, nonstandard chip sizes are available upon request. The series is also available with two RoHS-compliant termination options: plated Ni/Sn and FLEXITERM®, the latter of which provides considerably enhanced resistance to mechanical stress by allowing for more than twice as much board flexure as standard terminations.

AVX’s high-voltage automotive MLCC Series is compatible with SpiCap 3.0 SPICE modeling software, and is available with standard lead times. Samples, kits, pricing, and AEC-Q200 qualification data are available upon request.
