Haydon Switch and Instrument Offers New Hybrid Linear Actuator

March 29, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Haydon Switch and Instrument Inc. (Waterbury, CT) recently introduced its Size 17 hybrid linear actuator. The company believes that this actuator's high-performance design will lead to new application opportunities.

The use of a proprietary manufacturing process, which incorporates engineering thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut, and a stainless steel acme lead screw allows the motor to be much more efficient and durable than the V-thread and bronze-nut configuration commonly used today. An additional feature is the bearing preload adjustment, which does not protrude from the motor.

The hybrid design is available in a wide variety of resolutions, from 0.00012/step to 0.00192/step, delivering thrust up to 50 pounds. Typical applications are expected to include X-Y tables, semiconductor handling and telecommunications equipment, valve control, and the like.
