Guiyang Power Selects Telvent for Expansion of Smart Grid Efforts

January 05, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Telvent GIT, S.A., a specialist real-time IT solutions and information provider, announced that Guiyang Electrical Power Supply Company of Guizhou, China has selected Telvent smart grid technology for the collection and analysis of its real-time operational data. This solution, integrated with Guiyang Power’s current Telvent products, will support the planning, operation and analysis of a distribution network that reaches nearly four million people in Guiyang, Guizhou province’s capital.

With Telvent’s smart grid solutions, Guiyang Power will have access to critical data through an intuitive interface that seamlessly integrates with its current software. The utility will collect data from approximately one million data points for analysis and solve service disruptions more quickly by locating the incident, isolating it and providing recommendations on how best to restore the power supply -- all through a dispatcher’s remote control commands to field devices rather than through a manual procedure.

According to Telvent’s Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, "We are pleased to continue our relationship with Guiyang Power and to provide comprehensive smart grid solutions that allow its distribution network to operate more efficiently. Our technology will not only meet Guiyang Power’s needs today, but will serve as the foundation for future smart grid developments."

Telvent’s advanced distribution management system technology is deployed in more than 20 countries around the world and serves 66 million utility customers. It was recently given a "positive" rating following an analysis by Gartner, Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, in its March 2011 report, "MarketScope for Advanced Distribution Management Systems."
