Green Mountain Energy to Launch Solar Home in TX

May 11, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Green Mountain Energy Co. (Houston, TX) and Houston Habitat for Humanity are teaming up to support clean, renewable energy in Houston by installing a 1.2kWh solar array on the roof of a recently completed Habitat for Humanity home in Houston. The home, which is located in the Wood Glen subdivision in Northeast Houston, was funded and built by the graduating class of St. John's High School in River Oaks as a senior class project. The 1.2kWh solar array will offset about 2,000lbs of carbon dioxide (CO2), or, as much CO2 as a car makes in 2,300 miles.

"This is a perfect opportunity for us to continue our education campaign in Texas around less-polluting electricity and its benefits while giving something back to the community," said John Savage, president of the Texas region for Green Mountain Energy. "We are looking forward to our continued relationship with the Habitat for Humanity organization as we work toward our mission to change the way power is made."
