Ford's EV Ka Quickly Reaches 95 mph

May 25, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Ford Motor Co. (Scotland), has built a prototype electric hybrid based on its popular "Ka" city car, an electric hybrid powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries. The "E Ka" reportedly has similar performance to the gasoline-powered model and a range of up to 95 miles. Ford says it also accelerates much quicker than rival electric hybrids. Some of the car's water-cooled, lithium-ion batteries are placed in the engine bay, while others are located near the rear axle. Ford says there are no immediate plans to produce the E ka.
