Fischer Electronik Offers New Heatsink Packages

October 29, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Fischer Electronik (Germany) is now offering heatsinks for surface-mount packages — D-PAK, TO-252 D-PAK, TO-263 D2PAK and TO-268 D3PAK. These heatsinks provide effective heat dissipation. The copper heatsinks feature a special geometry that enables high heat conductivity. This, in combination with a solderable surface, enables them to be directly soldered onto the PCB.

The heatsink is soldered onto a copper heat-spreader surface on the PCB, and the heat is then dissipated by the heatsink to the atmosphere. Since no holes are required in the PCB, the heat-spreader surface may be freely designed to meet application-specific needs. This indirect heat-dissipation design simplifies the placement and soldering process.
