Ericsson Energy Intros PKG 4319 PI & PKG 4625 DC/DC Power Modules

September 12, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Energy Systems (Sweden) introduced two new models in its 60W PKG family of dc/dc power modules. The new 48V/60V input power modules are aimed at low voltage digital and broader analog applications. The PKG models deliver full power without needing a heatsink, and withstand case temperatures up to 100 degrees C. The PKG 4319 PI provides a 2.5V 15A output, while the PKG 4625 PI offers dual 15V outputs, with either output able to source up to 3.2A within an overall total output of 60W. A full set of protection and control facilities are included, simplifying the use of these isolated output converters in sophisticated distributed power for IT and telecom systems, according to Ericsson. Advanced thermal design and proprietary topology are claimed to enable the PKG 4625 PI to maintain 86 percent efficiency from 25 to 60W output, with the 2.5V PKG 4319 PI delivering 78 percent efficiency from 20 to 100 percent of full load. Both modules are designed for parallel operation in applications requiring higher power, and include overcurrent and short circuit protection. In addition to remote control and automatic shutdown under low input voltage conditions, the output voltage is easily adjusted using a single external resistor. The output voltage can be accurately adjusted between 2.25V and 2.75V for the PKG 4319 PI and 12.0V and 16.5V for the PKG 4625 PI. With samples currently available from stock, the PKG 4319 PI will be priced at $61, and the PKG 4625 PI will be priced at $63, both in quantities of 500.
