Emerson Network Power Adds IPv6 Capabilities

October 09, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power announced the Liebert IntelliSlot™ Web Card, a communications interface card that supports the Liebert GXT3 and Liebert Nfinity™ UPS systems for network communications, is now compliant with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This firmware upgrade is currently available globally. The Liebert IntelliSlot Web Card platform delivers simple network management protocol (SNMP), Telnet and Web management to a Liebert UPS, power management or precision cooling system connected to any 10- or 100-Mbit Ethernet network. The interface also provides for remote web or in-the-field firmware upgrade. The addition of IPv6 functionality to the Liebert GXT3 and Nfinity UPS systems provides enhanced security and communication for the web-based monitoring and control of the systems.

With the added ability to support direct connectivity to IPv6 networks, the Liebert IntelliSlot Web Card enables the UPS system to support the next-generation Internet Protocol that is replacing IPv4, which currently directs nearly all Internet traffic. The firmware upgrade enables the card to leverage the expansive number of IP addresses available in the IPv6 domain and provide flexibility in allocating the addresses and efficiency for routing traffic. With the last IPv4 addresses given out in 2011, an increasing number of new mobile and broadband subscribers worldwide will be given IPv6 addresses starting in 2012.

"As companies deploy IPv6, it is important that Emerson Network Power support that investment and ensure that they can capitalize on the benefits offered by the next generation Internet Protocol, including enhanced security and communication, to better manage and control their data center power and cooling infrastructure," said Peter Panfil, vice president, global power, Emerson Network Power. "The Liebert GXT3 and Liebert Nfinity UPS systems are the first in a series of planned rollouts supporting IPv6 compliance across the company's network-enabled Liebert power and precision cooling product line."

The Liebert GXT3 and Liebert Nfinity UPS systems deliver continuous, high-quality AC power to connected equipment with no break when transferring to battery. Liebert GXT3 features hot-swappable, user-replaceable internal batteries that provide three or more minutes of runtime at full load, with higher backup time available with external matching battery cabinets. These units are designed to automatically detect input frequency of 60 or 50 Hz. In addition, models of Liebert GXT3 UPS are BAA compliant, and Liebert Nfinity UPS is NAFTA compliant, meeting the needs of many government and K-12 requirements. In addition these products are also SNMP3 capable -- providing additional security required by many businesses and government agencies.
