Elcon Introduces the Dual Crown-Clip Socket Connector

July 17, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics' Elcon (Fremont, CA) introduced the Dual Crown Clip, a dual-pole version of its true hot-plug, high-current, crown-clip socket connector used in bus-bar power-distribution systems.

The new Crown Clip features two isolated contacts designed to mate with a two-pole laminated bus bar for feed and return in approximately the same board space as the original design. It also has a feed-through socket design that allows insertion of the mating blade from the bottom of the socket, or even mating of multiple sockets mounted on stacked planes with a single, long bus bar.

Current ratings in the new Crown Clip are higher than those of the original design, reaching a maximum of 350A when mated with a solid bus bar, and up to 130A per contact for a maximum of 260A of power and ground when used with a laminated bus bar. The dual Crown Clip also supports true hot-pluggability.

Pricing for the dual Crown Clip starts at under $5 in high-volume quantities. The product is currently in production.
