Dynaload Intros WCL4881000-12000 Active Load

December 14, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Dynaload (Randolph, NJ) has introduced a high-voltage, high-power water-cooled load, the WCL4881000-12000. The company maintains that this active load is suitable for testing a range of large power applications, including battery, fuel cell and power supply test, burn-in and stress screening.

Operating from 400 to essentially 0V in constant current, constant resistance, constant voltage, constant power and dynamic pulse modes, this 12,000W, 0 to 400Vdc, 1 to 1,000A electronic load measures 5.25 inches and is rack-mountable.

It has full copper piping and variable flow control and can be cooled by any water source. It is programmable using the front panel or via a standard IEEE-488 bus. The load can be paralleled with slave units for a maximum of 0 to 10,000A. Each slave delivers 1,000A and 12,000W. The master automatically detects any enabled slave unit and adjusts the maximum current and power allowed for true and proper apportions of settings and readbacks. Dynaload claims that, no matter the number of parallel loads, full-scale current is slewed in 100uSecs without ringing or overshoots.

WCL488-1000-12000 is available now with a 6 to 8 week delivery. Priced at approximately $1 per watt, systems start at $13,000 with IEE-488. Fully assembled racks with internal paralleled plumbing and bus bars and custom systems are also available. All systems and individual loads may be field-upgraded with the addition of slave units.
