dual ultra-low-power (1uA) latched comparator

December 19, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Semiconductor (San Jose, CA) recently introduced the MIC833, a dual ultra-low-power (1uA) latched comparator with on-chip reference. The device is designed for precise threshold detection in battery powered applications. The MIC833 is designed for the needs of threshold detection in battery powered applications and achieves a propagation delay of 5uS for a supply current of 1uA. The device combines a precision one percent voltage reference with two ultra-low-power comparators and a latch. Three external resistors set the upper and lower thresholds; the hysteresis voltage is the difference between the two thresholds. Competing comparators with adjustable hysteresis are limited to a maximum hysteresis of 100mV to 200mV, said Scott Brown, linear and RF business unit manager, whereas the hysteresis of the MIC833 can be set anywhere from millivolts to volts.
