Dimmable LED Drivers from Thomas Research Offer Choice of AC or DC Inputs

January 14, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Thomas Research Products has introduced two new dc-dc LED Driver product lines. The LDC Series of DC to DC LED drivers are designed for smaller applications. The first offering is 25W. Several different models are available, in constant-current and constant-voltage versions.

The LEDDC Series of drivers offers the flexibility of dc or ac input, allowing them to be utilized in a wider variety of applications. Initial availability includes 25W and 60W models, in constant-current (fixed or dimmable) and constant-voltage versions.

The LEDDC drivers operate from input voltages of 100-277Vac or 108-250Vdc. The 25W constant-voltage unit has an output voltage of 72Vdc while the 60W constant-voltage unit has an output voltage of 86Vdc. The constant-current 25W units deliver 350mA of current over an output voltage range of 24-72Vdc. The constant-current 670W units deliver 700mA of current over an output voltage range of 28-86Vdc. Dimming options include 0-10Vdc resistance-programmed "analog" dimming and pulse-width-modulation (pwm) "digital" dimming.

The 25W units are delivered in a plastic housing while the 60W devices are packaged in an aluminum housing. All models are rated for a maximum case temperature of 90 degrees C, have a half-cycle hold-up time and include output over-voltage protection, output over-current protection and output short-circuit protection that is reset by power cycling.
