Desktop Power Supplies for Patient-Contact Equipment

September 01, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Mean Well Enterprises Co. Ltd. has announced the GSM40B/60B series of high-performance 40W/60W desktop-type medical adaptors. The entire series is certified with the medical power supply regulation- the third edition of IEC60601-1 and the design follows 2xMOPP (Means of Patient Protection). In addition, with the ultra-low leakage current less than 50µA, efficiency up to 91.5% and no load power consumption less than 0.1W, GSM40B/60B is designed for use in medical devices in contact with patients. GSM40B/60B complies with the latest energy-saving regulations, such as ErP step 2 of European Union, EISA 2007 (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007) of USA, and so on.

GSM40B/60B series operates with full range input of 80- to 264-Vac and supplies various dc output voltages that are used the most frequently in medical electrical devices. GSM40B/60B is a class II unit (no FG) with UL 94V-0 level flame retardant plastic case that is able to effectively prevent the shock hazard. Other functions involve in the LED indicator for power on, short circuit protection, over load protection, over voltage protection, and over temperature protection (for GSM60B only). GSM40B/60B series acquires global safety certificates per UL/CUL/TUV/CB/FCC/CE, including the household medical electrical device regulation EN60601-1-11 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1-11, greatly assuring the safety when using the adaptors.

The applicable applications include medical equipment requiring low leakage current, mobile clinical workstations, oral irrigators, portable hemodialysis machines, breath machines, medical display monitors, automated clinical chemistry analyzers, or any electrical systems in the need of low “no load power consumption”.
