Delta is First Electronics Enterprise to Pass ISO 50001 Conformity Evaluation

Delta Electronics announced that its Dongguan factory in China has become the world’s first power and components electronic enterprise to officially pass the conformity evaluation for the Energy Management System of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001. Delta Electronics China has established a 5-year energy saving goal, to reduce power consumption in 2014 by 50% as compared to 2009.

Daryl Liao, Executive Vice President of Delta Group’s China region, said: "For Delta Electronics to implement its operations mission, ’To provide innovative, clean and efficient energy solutions for a better tomorrow’, all factories around the globe must strive to save energy using this as their goal. In China, plants conduct regular meetings for all personnel to discuss energy saving measures. This has increased Delta’s green competitiveness. As of the second half of 2010, the energy saving goal for the China region is to reduce power consumption in 2014 by 50% as compared to 2009. The Delta Dongguan factory is delighted about passing the evaluation for the ISO 50001 Energy Management System. This recognizes Delta’s long-term devotion to eco-friendliness and energy saving. In the future, Delta Electronics will promote Dongguan’s successful factory experience to factories around the world as part of our corporate social responsibility."

Rock Huang, General Manager of Delta’s Dongguan factory, indicated, "Delta’s Dongguan factory is implementing green production and an overall solution for green energy. With the implementation of the ISO 50001 Energy Management System in the Dongguan region, and production capacity at an even level from January to May of this year, we have already reduced power consumption by 10.51 million KWH as compared to the same period in 2010. This is equivalent to reducing 10.2 thousand tons of carbon emissions and saving RMB 8 million. Power consumption was also reduced by 37% as compared to the 74.3 thousand KWH/million USD production value in 2009. We are confident that our goal of 50% reduction in 2014 is just around the corner."

This is the first year of China’s "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". The plan stipulates that energy consumption for unit industrial added-value, carbon dioxide emissions, and water consumption must be reduced by 18%, over 18%, and 30% respectively as compared to the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" to promote enterprise energy saving and carbon reduction. Delta Electronics has promoted comprehensive eco-friendly and energy saving measures on a long-term basis. Estimates from the past 3 years indicate that when customers use Delta’s latest energy saving and renewable energy products, then over 3 billion KWH of electricity is saved, and 2 million tons of CO2e green house gas emissions are reduced, resulting in outstanding green energy savings.

After the official announcement of ISO 50001 standards on June 15th 2011, Delta Electronics immediately invited a professional consulting firm to conduct an evaluation. Consultants confirmed in early July that Delta’s energy management system conformed to the international standard. The ISO 50001 Energy Management System was arranged by ISO/PC 242, the ISO energy management committee. The system inherits principles of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and its promotion is beneficial to the implementation of a national energy policy and standard, which encourages enterprises to strengthen energy management, reduce energy consumption, and improve energy usage.
