DATEL Debuts the BWR-5/3.3 Series of DC/DC Converters

October 24, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

DATEL Inc. (Mansfield, MA) announced the new BWR-5/3.3 Series of dual-output, 30W dc/dc converters. The BWR-5/3.3 Series features two independently regulated outputs, one of 5V at 3A, and another of 3.3V at 4.25A. The converters have a full 30W of output power.

DATEL's new series of converters features two output-return paths, two on/off control pins, two output-trim pins and two sets of output-protection circuitry. Each converter uses synchronous-rectifier topology, delivering around 88 percent overall efficiency. The converters are housed in a 2in x 2in x 0.5in plastic case and can operate from -40 to 65 degrees C with no supplemental air flow. Safety features include input pi filters, input over- and under-voltage shutdown, output over-voltage protection, output current limiting and continuous short-circuit protection, as well as thermal shutdown.

Single converters from the BWR-5/3.3 Series are priced at $68 each. The price is $42 each for 10,000-unit quantities. Additional discounts and samples are available. Pre-production quantities up to 25 pieces are immediately available. Production quantities require six to eight weeks.
