Cree Presents New 1.2kV SiC Schottky Rectifiers

February 26, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Cree Inc. (Durham, NC) expanded its SiC Schottky rectifier product family with the addition of 1.2kV devices, supplementing the previously released 600V family of Schottky diodes. The Zero Recovery™ 1.2kV family consists of a 5A Schottky diode in TO-220 packaging, as well as a TO-247-packaged 10A model. Both are targeted at applications such as anti-parallel diodes for high-frequency inverters, snubber diodes for high-current IGBT inverters, boost diodes for 480V input power-factor correction, and high-voltage multipliers.

When used as anti-parallel diodes in a 5HP motor drive, the company claims that the Schottky rectifiers reduce turn-on losses by up to 75 percent in the motor and up to 85 percent in the diode.
