combination dc/dc converter and ACPI switch

October 24, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor (Mountain View, CA) announced a combination dc/dc converter and ACPI switch targeting the power supply needs of next generation PC motherboard architectures. Released during this week's Wescon show in San Jose, the RC5058 and RC5060 are claimed to offer the most integrated power management solution for PC desktops. The RC5058 is designed to reduce board space by using one of the industry's smallest packages to combine one programmable dc/dc converter with three LDOs to provide a complete motherboard powering solution. The 5-bit programmable dc/dc converter provides outputs of 1.3 to 3.5Vdc. Two of the RC5058's on-board LDOs provide 1.5V and 2.5V fixed voltages for Vtt termination and Vclock. The third user selectable 1.5V to 3.3V LDO is available for Vnorthbridge (1.8V) or Vagp (selectable 1.5V/3.3V). The integrated ACPI-compliant RC5060 features dual switches and two LDOs addressing USB, PCI, SDRAM, and RAMBUS power busses. In lots of 1,000, the unit prices of the RC5058 and RC5060 are $2.50 and $2.70, respectively.
