Charger Controllers Support both Li-ion and Li-Polymer Batteries

January 10, 2018 by Paul Shepard

Torex Semiconductor Ltd. has launched the XC6806 series of charging ICs during CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. These IC include current path functions for single‐cell lithium‐ion/polymer secondary batteries. The ICs in the XC6806 series can control battery charging and supply current to systems, so that they are kept at appropriate values.

Their charge completion voltages can be set to values with a wider range than previous products, for compatibility with various types of lithium batteries (charging voltage range supported is from 3.5V to 4.45 V).

They have the shutdown functions which can completely disable the supply of power from batteries to devices. This can suppress leakage current from batteries when devices are not in use to a level as low as 100nA, making it possible for equipment such as low current consumption devices operated by small batteries to be used for even longer periods of time.

These products are housed in the compact USP‐10B (2.9 x 2.6 x h0.6 mm) or LGA‐10B01 (2.5 x 1.6 x h0.4 mm) packages with excellent heat dissipation properties, which can be selected as necessary to suit the application.

Summary of features of the XC6806 series:

  • Having current path functions to control charging current and system current
  • Supports charge completion voltages from 3.5V to 4.45V
  • Battery leakage current has been reduced to 100nA
  • Shutdown functions can completely disable power supply from batteries to devices
