C&D Technologies Intros WPN30R Series of DC/DC Converters

December 12, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies (Blue Bell, PA) introduced the WPN30R Series of 30W regulated high-density dc/dc converters. These converters feature a remote sense facility that allows the user to compensate for long line lengths. Available with an input voltage range of either 18 to 35Vdc or 36 to 75Vdc, the dc/dc converter can be specified with single outputs of 3.3, 5, 12 or 15Vdc, or else a variety of triple-output configurations.

All models in the WPN30R Series offer full regulation down to zero load and incorporate features such as soft start, remote on/off, output trim facility, under-voltage lockout, over-temperature shutdown with auto-reset, over-current protection, output over-voltage protection and short-circuit protection. Built-in filtering on inputs and outputs ensures that the dc/dc converters meet the requirements of EN55022 Level A for conducted emissions.

C&D Technologies maintains that the WPN30R Series is designed for applications in telecommunications, battery-powered systems, process-control equipment and distributed power systems. The series uses a fixed switching frequency of 250kHz and achieves a typical efficiency of 86 percent. It has an operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to 100 degrees C, and its case includes through holes to facilitate mounting or the addition of a heatsink for high-temperature applications.
