September 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

BP plc (London, England) announced that 87,000 state-of-the-art photovoltaic cells supplied by BP Solar are to be used in the construction of the new TXU-Europe building in Ipswich. The 200kW project represents what is claimed to be the largest solar installation in the UK and is scheduled for completion in December 2002.

BP Solar says the building will represent a showcase for building integrated photovoltaic technology, widely regarded as a key feature of buildings of the future. "The project is significant because it proves that the technologies are available to deliver practical solar energy systems," stated BP Solar Business Executive Manager Ray Noble.
