Boeing and Sandia to Develop Renewable Energy

September 11, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Boeing Co. (Chicago, IL) and Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, NM), a research laboratory of the US Department of Energy (Washington, DC), have signed an umbrella cooperative research and development agreement to develop solar power technologies of mutual benefit without having to negotiate the details of each one and, although renewable energy is the first area of work, more projects may be added later in other technical categories.

The Boeing-Sandia partnership will involve a broad range of CSP technologies, including power towers, dish engine systems, solar troughs and concentrated photovoltaics, and will focus on the development of key demonstrations, risk-reduction testing and economic/system analysis.
