Ault Power Injectors Comply with IEEE 802.3af

September 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Ault Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) introduces its PW130 power sourcing equipment (PSE) to power next-generation IP telephony and power-over-LAN applications. The new single-port, Power-over-Ethernet mid-span PSE provides power through integral RJ45 jacks as well as data in accordance with IEEE 802.3af guidelines over a single CAT 5 Ethernet cable.

The Ault PW130 DC PSE is suitable for virtually any powered device that requires a LAN connection running 13W or less, including IP phones, wireless network access points, PDA and notebook computer docking stations, cellular phone chargers, HVAC thermostats, and security cameras. The PW130 eliminates the time-consuming and costly practice of installing ac outlets at typically hard-to-reach powered device locations.

The IEEE 802.3af-compliant PW130 units protect against power applied to a non-802.3af-compliant load. The units recognize proper power supply with intelligent "signatures" before enabling full output power. The PW130 also protects against more than one power supply per cable, regardless of polarity. It provides current limiting, detects when the load is unplugged, resets its detection circuitry, protects against mis-wiring and automatically avoids power application to a non-compliant load device.

The Ault PW130 is available for $11.75 in quantities of 1,000. The power injector has cULus 1950, TUV EN60950 and Denan safety approvals for OEMs to support customers worldwide.
