Astec Power Debuts ALQ Series DC/DC Converters

January 27, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Astec Power (Carlsbad, CA), a merchant supplier of power conversion solutions, introduced its new single-output ALQ Series of dc/dc converters in an industry-standard quarter-brick configuration. The converters feature a low profile of 0.38in (9.65mm) high and a high power density in a convenient open-frame construction that is suited to distributed power architecture applications.

Operating from an input-voltage range of 36V to 75V, the ALQ models are currently available with 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V and 1.2V output voltages capable of delivering a maximum of 60A of output load current (40A for 3.3V, 50A to 60A, <3.3V). In addition, the devices feature a clean monotonic output startup characteristic, good regulation at less than one percent and good output stability at varying load impedance. A wide operating temperature range of -40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C) enables deployment into almost any environment.

Models in the ALQ family also incorporate protection from over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature as well as under-voltage lockout with hysteresis to prevent false triggering at low-input voltages. Added features include an output enable pin with positive and negative logic options, a trim pin for output adjustability, and remote-sense pins to compensate for any output distribution dropouts.

Samples of the ALQ family are available now. Prices start from $85 each in OEM quantities.
