Artesyn Technologies Unveils NXI110 Series of DC/DC Converters

August 27, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies (Boca Raton, FL) unveiled the NXI110 Series of 110W, non-isolated, dc/dc converters for the next-generation of micro-processors. The NXI110 provides point-of-load power conversion and fast transient response in a vertically mounted package.

This device is VRM9.0-specification compliant and is designed for next-generation workstations, file servers, desktop computers and other high-performance applications. The NXI110 is available initially with 12V input and is programmable between 1.10V to 1.85V output. Its 3.80 x 0.563 footprint consumes little board space and uses gold-plated edge tabs for a convenient, low-impedance interconnect scheme that accommodates future expansion.

The NXI110 can handle a transient from zero to full-load (50A/uS) and can recover in less than 50uS. It also provides 60A of output current at 60 degrees C with 400 LFM of airflow. To meet the design flexibility requirements needed by its customers, Artesyn has adopted Intersil Holding Corp.'s (Mountain Top, PA) current share solution in the NXI110, eliminating the need for cumbersome master/slave combinations, and allowing multiple voltage regulator modules to share the total current demand of processors.

"Intersil's current-sharing solution enables us to better serve our customers," said Mark Jutras, vice president of engineering for Artesyn. "The leading computer manufacturers have been asking for interoperability between power modules and so we are pleased to endorse Intersil's approach, which we believe meets the design objectives of both the power industry and the OEM community."

The NXI110 can be delivered from stock with 12-week lead times for production orders, for $49.00 in quantities of 5,000.
