Artesyn Technologies Launches EXB250 Series of Converters

May 24, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies (Boca Raton, FL) has launched a new series of dc/dc converters. Housed in an open-frame package with a half-brick footprint, the new EXB250 Series features a 33 to 75V input. The converters are initially available with 3.3, 2.5 or 1.8V outputs. The 2.5V and 1.8V models can deliver up to 60A. The EXB250 Series is suitable for use in networking, telecommunications and wireless applications, especially those employing a 48V distributed power architecture.

Artesyn's new converters use synchronous rectification. They have open-frame

construction, so there are no thermally conductive potting compounds between power-dissipating components and heat-sensitive control circuits. The series features a two-board stacked structure to thermally de-couple these two areas. The converters have an operational temperature range spanning from -40 degrees C to 100 degrees C.

All EXB250 Series converters offer an output-voltage-trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 90 and 110 percent of nominal. All three converters in the series also offer remote-sense capabilities and are equipped with a remote on/off facility. The converters have no minimum load requirement, and are comprehensively protected against over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions. The converters have a 1,500Vdc isolation rating and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 and UL1950.

Artesyn’s new EXB250 Series of dc/dc converters are available to OEMs for $85.67, when ordered in quantities of 10,000.
