Artesyn Comments on Power-One Patent Infringement Suit

October 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL), a manufacturer of power conversion and embedded board solutions for infrastructure applications in telecommunications systems, issued a statement with regards to the September 30th suit filed by Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) in the United States Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.

"Artesyn is very diligent about intellectual property ownership during its product development process. It believes that it has defenses to the suit filed by Power-One, intends to assert them vigorously, and expects to prevail. Artesyn believes in competing aggressively and fairly in the marketplace based upon the merits of its products. This lawsuit and the accompanying press release by Power-One appear, in Artesyn’s opinion, to be a baseless attempt to slow the adoption of the PMBus™ protocol through the courts instead of through technical merit. While Power-One has chosen to invest in a proprietary system architecture, Artesyn believes the future of digital power management is better served with an open architecture such as the PMBus™ protocol, which has already gained significant support from numerous power supply and semiconductor companies, as well as system OEMs."
