APC Obtains Lead Share Position in China for UPS Sales

March 12, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced that it has obtained the lead share position in China for UPS sales. According to 1999 research conducted by the China-based Market Information Center of the Center of Computer and Integrated Circuits Development (CCID-MIC), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Information Industry, APC is the sales leader in the Chinese UPS market based on revenues. After only four years in the Chinese market, APC surpassed its closest competitor, which consistently held the lead position for eight years.

Founded in 1981, APC opened its Chinese sales office in 1995 in Beijing. In 1998, the company established a local manufacturing facility in Suzhou, which has since obtained ISO 9000 certification. In September 1999, APC-China ranked number one in a post-sales customer satisfaction survey also conducted by CCID-MIC.

"While APC is already the leading UPS manufacturer in many countries, reaching leadership status in China is particularly gratifying given the relatively short time we've served the Chinese market," said Bill Thayer, general manager of APC's Asia-Pacific region. "It is clear that our growth strategy has paid off and we look forward to continued growth in this critical region."
