APC Expands Smart-UPS Line with New 1U Design

November 11, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion Corp. (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced enhancements to its Smart-UPS® uninterruptible power supply (UPS) line with the introduction of a 1U rack-mount model. The new 1U rack-mount Smart-UPS, available in 750VA and 1,000VA, provides power protection for rack-mounted business critical servers, including blade servers, appliance servers and new Itanium-2-based servers in a distributed power protection architecture.

The new units feature USB and serial connectivity to APC's PowerChute® Business Edition software, which enables IT administrators to provide safe system shutdown and UPS management for servers and workstations. In addition to consuming less rack space than current models, the new Smart-UPS rack-mount design provides a wider input-voltage range that can maintain computer grade power even if the nominal voltage drops by 30 percent without the UPS utilizing battery power. APC has also simplified the battery removal and replacement process by integrating the batteries in a chassis tray with an easy accessible connector, enabling users to disconnect and replace the batteries without disturbing the connected load.

The new Smart-UPS 1U is currently available worldwide. Estimated resale pricing of the 750VA and 1,000VA is $509 and $659, respectively.
