AnalogicTech Unveils AAT1151 Synchronous Converter

August 05, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech, Sunnyvale, CA), a developer of power management solutions, introduced the AAT1151 synchronous buck converter. Delivering more than 700 mA output current in a 3 mm x 3 mm QFN package across a 2.7 V to 5.5 V input range, the stepdown switching converter can be used in a wide variety of portable applications powered by a single-cell, lithium-ion/polymer battery.

The AAT1151 operates at a fixed 850 kHz switching frequency and combines PWM and PFM control to maintain high efficiency across all load conditions. Low on-resistance, 110 mOhm and 100 mOhm, respectively, for the switch and synchronous rectifier, increases full load efficiency. The current-mode-controlled AAT1151 uses synchronous rectification to reach efficiency levels of up to 95%. Fully integrated compensation simplifies design and minimizes external parts count. Shutdown current is less than 1 µA. The AAT1151 also features internal soft-start and complete over-temperature and current-limit protection.

Qualified across the standard -40 °C to +85 °C industrial temperature range, the AAT1151 is available in either a 16-pin QFN 3 mm x 3 mm or MSOP-8 package. Pricing starts at $1.20 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
