Amphenol Launches Swiftmate Connector Series

February 14, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Amphenol Industrial Operations (Sidney, NY) has introduced a new series of connector plugs that mate to the more popular sizes and configurations of C-5105 style threaded receptacles. The new Swiftmate Connector Series provides a solution for a wide range of industrial applications, including power, signal, process control and instrumentation, machine tools and communications systems.

The new Swiftmate connectors are designed to provide ease-of-use without damaging the receptacles' threads. They enable users of older, threaded-style MIL-C-5015 style connectors to benefit from the rapid-mating feature while maintaining compatibility with equipment already in the field.

The Swiftmate coupling system employs an internal ring of formed, locking fingers that slide over a receptacle's threads. The fingers grab the thread when the connector is fully mated, providing a positive lock of the plug to the receptacle, with 125 pounds of pullout resistance. Spring pressure secures the solid metal coupling ring over the locking fingers. Disengaging the connection requires a pull straight back on the coupling ring.

Swiftmate connectors require no repetitive turning or safety-wiring of coupling rings and potential cross-threading is eliminated. The connectors are manufactured of machined metal with a corrosion-resistant nickel metal finish, and with solder-style, silver-plated pin or socket contacts. They offer the same electrical characteristics as MIL-C-5015 connectors.

Amphenol reports that the new Swiftmate connectors are available in shell sizes 14S through 24, in straight or right-angle versions, and in most popular layouts from 1 to 24 contacts. Pricing begins at $6.00 each in quantities of 100, dependent on the shell size and insert pattern. Delivery is eight weeks ARO.
