AEC-Q200 Compliant Varistor Provides 50 Percent Higher Surge Rating

March 19, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Littelfuse, Inc. has introduced the AUMOV™ Series of low-voltage, high-surge current, radial-leaded varistors for automotive applications. The AUMOV™ Series Varistor offers 50 percent greater surge withstanding capability than existing technologies on the market for low dc voltage applications. The maximum peak surge current is rated up to 5KA (8/20µs pulse) to protect sensitive automotive systems from transients induced by load dump, jump starts, and other transient events. Its compliance with the AEC-Q200 automotive electronics industry standard makes it ideal for use in both the vehicle's passenger compartment and under-the-hood applications.

The AUMOVâ„¢ Series offers a wide voltage range of 16Vdc to 50Vdc and is available in five disc sizes: 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm, and 20mm. The AUMOVâ„¢ Series Varistor provides motor or inductive load transient suppression for automotive safety systems, body electronics, powertrain systems, thermal management/HVAC systems, and infotainment systems.

“The AUMOV™ Series Varistor provides an ideal circuit protection solution for lower DC voltage automotive applications, whether they’re located in the vehicle’s passenger compartment or under the hood,” said Johnny Change, product manager of the AUMOV™ Series Varistor product line. “The phenolic coating option makes them particularly suitable for use in harsh under-hood environments with operating temperatures up to 125 degrees C.”
