Absopulse Unveils 2UC1000 AC/DC Converter

June 25, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario) unveiled its 2UC1000 ac/dc converter, which is a high-performance, multiple-output, configurable power supply system that accommodates a variety of field-proven power supply modules in a 2U x 11in x 11.5in chassis. The basic 2UC1000 unit provides up to eight outputs at 1,000W from either a standard 115Vac or 230Vac source.

The modular nature of the power supply allows for quick, cost-effective tailoring to a wide range of customer requirements, including output power up to 1,500W with power-factor correction, and dc output voltages up to 300V. The unit’s rugged construction makes it suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications, including public utilities, transportation and telecommunications.

Built-in, forced-air cooling provides airflow for operation without de-rating up to 50°C ambient temperature on the 1,000W model, with 2.5% de-rating per degree centigrade up to 70°C. Line-and-load regulation is typically ±1% combined, with some outputs at ±3% depending on the specific model. Output ripple and noise is better than 1% of output voltage peak-to-peak, and efficiency is 80% at full load. Over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection on all outputs are standard features.

Pricing depends on the type and number of modules employed; an eight-output, 1,000W unit is typically available for $826 in quantities of one to four.
