Absopulse Introduces 750Vdc Input, 2kW Rugged DC-DC Converter For Railway & Similar Applications

December 26, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. has introduced the HVI 2K-750/24 high input voltage dc-dc converter to generate 2kW output power. It accepts 750Vdc input voltage (525 to 975Vdc range), which is the traction voltage typically required for mining locomotives and mass transit vehicles such as trams, metros and light rail.

The standard unit delivers 24Vdc, with other output voltages available on request. An optional built-in redundancy diode would allow for a number of units to be connected in parallel to achieve higher output power or N+1 redundancy. The HVI 2K-750/24 meets the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on rolling stock. It is filtered to meet EN 50121-3-2 EMI/EMC.

Ruggedizing and conformal coating provide immunity to shock, vibration, humidity, moisture and airborne contaminants. The HVI 2K-750/24 is fan cooled and rated for -25 to 45°C for full specification, with wider temperature ranges available.

To ensure high reliability and long operating life, all critical components on the primary side are designed and tested for corona inception levels significantly higher than the operating voltages. The unit features high efficiency, low output noise and full protection on the input and output.

The HVI 2K-750/24 is priced in the US$1,600 range at quantities of 10 – 24 depending on options.
