Abracon Introduces New Family of Circuit Protection Devices

July 30, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Abracon Corporation is extending its product portfolio with the newly introduced ABNTC, ATCC and AMCV series of NTC thermistors, tantalum capacitors and varistors. “Making this family an attractive, low-cost circuit protection solution is its Inrush current suppression, the ability to handle large ESD related transients, sub-nanosecond response times and high energy storage capability,” explains Syed Raza, Director of Engineering at Abracon.

“These devices are available in low profile 1.0x0.5x0.5mm to 5.7x5.0x2.5mm, low cost, RoHS compliant and lead free SMD packages. Specifically designed to fulfill space constraints in multi-feature consumer products, this family is optimized using thinner, lighter, miniaturized packaging, along with enhanced protection mechanisms, ensuring circuit protection for sensitive downstream components,” continues Raza.

Standard applications include: dc-dc converters in LED drivers, power supply circuits, audio circuits, earphones, CPU circuits, battery chargers, digital meters, temperature controls, TCXO/OSC circuits, LCD modules, HDD and outdoor LED displays, among others.

Key features of the ABNTC series of thermistors are: Large B constant (3380K to 4700K) for higher temperature sensing capability; A -55°C to +125°C extended operating temperature range; and Standard EIA sizes of 0402, 0603 and 0805 available for high density PCB mounting.

Key features of the ATCC series of tantalum capacitors are: Large capacitance (220µF max) in small size for better output voltage regulation; A -55°C to +125°C extended operating temperature range with exceptional stability; and Standard EIA sizes of 0402, 0603 and 0805 available for high density PCB mounting.

Key features of the AMCV series of varistors are: High peak current (1200A max) and low clamping voltage (18V min); A fast response time of less than 0.5ns; A -55°C to +125°C extended operating temperature range; and Standard EIA sizes from 0201 to 2220 available for high density PCB mounting.
