ABB Introduces New ION 8300 Energy and Power Quality Meter

April 18, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

ABB Electricity Metering (Norwalk, CT) announced the availability of its new ION 8300 revenue-class, socket-mount electricity meter to supply-side markets worldwide. This three-phase billing meter offers many of the analysis and multi-port communications features of the advanced ION 8400/8500 meters, providing energy suppliers with a competitive edge by helping industrial, commercial and institutional customers cut energy costs and reduce downtime.

Ronald Via, vice president of marketing for ABB Electricity Metering, commented, “The features of the new ION 8300 meter are an ideal solution for customers that do not require the advanced power quality analysis that the ION 8400/8500 meters offer. The ION 8300 meter is a cost-effective tool for energy, power, demand, time-of-use measurements and transformer loss

compensation with extensive sag/swell features."

According to ABB, the ION 8300 meter performs detailed sag/swell detection tasks; pinpointing and logging of over 500 disturbances with magnitude, duration, energy and start/end timestamps; and revenue-accurate power, energy, demand and time-of-use measurements. The meter also includes sophisticated transformer and line-loss compensation; calculating the compensation every second and providing real-time updates to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) or other monitoring systems.

The ION 8300 meters are now available from ABB.
