6:1 Input Range DC-DCs Target PV Combiner Boxes

April 21, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

GAPTEC Electronic GmbH & Co. KG has introduced its new regulated 5W and 10W dc-dc converter series, the 5DCP and 10DCP. This dc-dc converter series is designed for use in photovoltaic combiner system boxes with an extremely wide six-to-one input voltage range 200Vdc to 1200Vdc. The wide input range enables these converters to be used to power an RS485 communications interface in systems with single PV panels of extended strings of panels. Applications include both grid-interactive PV systems and stand-slone systems. These regulated converters offer an efficiency of up to 83% and work in standard temperature range of -40 to +70 degrees C.

"Our DCP series dc-dc converters are generally used in the control and monitoring system for photovoltaic installations. These converters are characterized by an extremely wide input voltage range of 200 - 1200Vdc and in addition they offer a high galvanic isolation (4kVdc). The operating temperature range is from -40 to +70 degrees C is also targeted for photovoltaic installations. The complete DCP series offers units delivering from 5W up to 40W, along with the common industry-standard output voltages. All converters are short circuit protected to protect the converter and application system. The products are offered in compact size and in metal housings as through-hole versions,” stated Marc Thomson, General Manager of

These converters are continuous short circuit protected SCP, offer a low-voltage protection (input under voltage protection) and also an over voltage protection (input over voltage protection). In addition, both series are characterized by an input-to-output isolation of 4.000Vdc and a long service life (MTBF 300,000 hours). GAPTEC Electronic offers customers short delivery times and a 3-year warranty on the dc-dc converters of both series.
