600mA Step-Down Synchronous DC-DC Converters with 36V Input

June 14, 2018 by Paul Shepard

Torex Semiconductor Ltd. has launched the XC9267 series of step-down synchronous dc-dc converters compatible with 36V input and 600mA output, for industrial equipment and consumer appliances having an input source of 12V or 24V.

The XC9267 series has a maximum input voltage of 36V, making it suited for use as a power supply for step-down from a 12V or 24V line. Its low minimum input voltage of 3.0V makes a MAX Duty of 100% possible, so it can also be applied as a component in an input OR circuit used with a backup line.

Its output current is 600mA, and when compared with voltage regulators conventionally used in this 600mA zone, its high-efficiency power supply circuit generates less heat, with reduced mounting space at 1/5 the required space of past products.

The switching frequency can be selected from either 1.2MHz or 2.2MHz and since it operates by PWM control, it can successfully achieve low ripple and high efficiency. The soft-start time has been set internally to be 2.0ms (Typ.), but a time longer than the internal soft-start can be set optionally depending on the resistance and capacity connected to the EN/SS terminal.

The compact USP-6C package used with this series is Power Good function and does not require a voltage detector for monitoring output voltage, allowing the number of parts to be reduced. The Power Good function and external soft-start function serve to simplify the sequence control as well.

Protective circuits built into these products include overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, to ensure safe use.

Features of the XC9267 Series

  • Switching frequency of 2.2 MHz and USP-6C package have reduced the board mounting area to 1/5 that of conventional products.
  • Sequence control is possible using the Power Good function and external soft-start function.
  • Can be used as a common power supply for VIN=12V and VIN=24V systems.
