#20: Medium-Power Planar Transformer handles up to 3kW

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced a new planar transformer offering power from 1kW to 3kW in a compact 70mm by 53mm by 22mm size. Compared to devices built on traditional winding technology, the Vishay Sfernice PLA51 delivers the same power transfer / conversion while offering higher efficiency and a lower weight and profile. More.

#19: Disruptive Inverter Technology to Lower Solar Energy Cost

Analog Devices, Inc. has introduced what is expected to be a disruptive addition to its power conversion platform with an innovative series of mixed-signal control processors. The ADSP-CM41x series is designed to dramatically simplify system design, lower cost, and improve efficiency and safety in solar, energy storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure. Solar panels and battery systems have become significantly less expensive in recent years, creating the need for inverter technologies to drive the next wave of efficiencies in solar energy. While disruptive new inverter designs have begun making improvements in size, weight, and cost reductions, they require further advances in digital processing to unlock their full potential. More.

#18: High-Speed Gate Driver for GaN Power Transistors

Panasonic Corporation announced that it will start mass production of a high-speed gate driver (AN34092B) optimized for driving its 600V GaN power transistors (X-GaN) in November 2016. The company will also start mass production of two types of X-GaN (the 70 mΩ PGA26E07BA and 190 mΩ PGA26E19BA) and provide solutions in combination with high-speed gate drivers. More.

#17: 20W Wireless Charging at 6.78MHz

NuVolta Technologies Inc. announces that it has developed industry's first 20W receiver IC based on its high efficiency Controlled Resonance wireless power architecture. The NU2500 power management IC can cover wireless power applications from 0.5W to 20W. In combination with the company's transmitter IC NU1000, NuVolta provides complete fast wireless charging solutions for smart watches, smart phones, tablets and notebook computers at very high efficiency. More.

#16: 1000V / 65mOhm SiC MOSFET

Wolfspeed, a Cree Company and a leader in silicon carbide (SiC) power products, has introduced a 1000V MOSFET that enables a reduction in overall system cost, while improving system efficiency and decreasing system size. The new MOSFET, specially optimized for fast charging and industrial power supplies, enables a 30 percent reduction in component count while achieving more than 3x increase in power density and a 33 percent increase in output power. More.

#15: High-Voltage 5-A Integrated Power Controllers

Silego Technology announced an expansion of its state-of-the-art integrated power controller portfolio with a new family of high-performance, high-voltage integrated power controllers. Designed for all high-side, 4.5-V to 24-V power rail applications and using Silego's proprietary MOSFET design IP, this new family of power controllers achieves ultra-stable 13.3mΩ Rds(on) across a wide input/supply voltage range and over temperature. Using Silego's proprietary CuFET™ technology, these new products require only a 4.8mm² footprint and exhibit low thermal resistance for high-current operation. More.

#14: LED Driver with Integrated Hall-Effect Switch

Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announces the release of the first LED driver IC that features an integrated Hall-effect switch. The A1569 enables compact, elegant, reliable, and fault-tolerant LED lighting with minimal electrical engineering and low component-count and cost. A single silicon chip integrates: a Hall plate, a small-signal amplifier, chopper stabilization, a Schmitt trigger, and a LED driver with soft on/off and short circuit and thermal protection with automatic recovery. The integrated solid-state Hall-effect switch supports silent, sealed, contactless activation and offers a significant upgrade from failure-prone mechanical switches. More.

#13: Rectiverter combines Rectifier, Inverter and Static Transfer Switch

Eltek, a Delta Group company is today announcing the launch of the Rectiverter, a power conversion module combining the functions of a rectifier, an inverter and a "static transfer switch" in one. The Rectiverter is a 3-port bidirectional converter that simplifies solutions providing both ac and dc power to critical loads in telecom, data center and industrial applications. It features a power conversion efficiency of 96% in mains mode and 94% when operating as an inverter. Combining a rectifier and an inverter into one box simplifies the power system complexity, reduces system size and improves overall system reliability, resulting in a reduced total cost of ownership over the product lifetime. More.

#12: Digital Power Evaluation Kit from Wurth and Infineon

Würth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG and Infineon Technologies AG are launching the jointly developed "XMC Digital Power Explorer" evaluation kit. This synchronous step-down converter, which can be assembled with two different control cards (XMC1300 - ARM® Cortex®-M0 MCU and XMC4200 - ARM® Cortex®-M4F MCU), makes it easier for developers of analog power supplies and embedded software programmers to enter the world of digital power supply. The XMC Digital Power Explorer Kit is a complete solution with hardware, software and switchable resistance load bank. More.

#11: DC-DC Converters can Drive SiC MOSFETs

To meet the tough requirements of the next generation of MOSFETs, RECOM has recently introduced two new 2W dc-dc converter series especially designed to power SiC MOSFETs. One of the challenges of driving SiC MOSFETs is the high frequency and high voltage at which they are switched. High potentials between the control and power side of a SiC MOSFET application can wear down isolation barriers, eventually causing them to fail. More.
