44V System Cost-Optimized Intelligent Control IC for BLDC Motors

November 04, 2018 by Paul Shepard

The PAC5222 from Active-Semi is an Arm® Cortex®-M0 intelligent motor controller that has an optimized analog front end (AFE) to align with the demand for smaller, lower component count systems with reduced PCB area. The PAC5222 enables board layouts that can be mounted directly on the back of a BLDC or PMSM motor.

“The PAC5222 is ideally-suited for portable power tools, industrial and telecom cooling fans with supply voltages up to 24V” says David Briggs, VP and General Manager of Power Solutions at Active-Semi. “The PAC5222 was closely developed with our growing customer base that targets their products in the growing power tool market.”

The combination of a high-power Arm® and dedicated Analog Front End enables designers to utilize the PAC5222 in cost sensitive applications. This is supported with the integrated gate drivers, signal conditioning and power management controllers to reduce external component count. This reduces PCB size, time to market and increases the system reliability with lower failure points.

“We are finding more applications that can benefit from our high level of integration and combination of hardware and software optimization” says David Briggs. “From first concept review to a working model in under a week is not unusual and is enabled with our dedicated team of experts and a well-rounded software library.”

The PAC5222QM is available in a 6x6mm 48-pin TQFN package and is supported with an evaluation kit, advanced software library and schematic and layout design files.
