August 03, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Leviton Manufacturing Co. today announced the launch of the industry-first 40A Electric Vehicle Charge Connector Assembly. The connector assembly was specially designed for the Leviton Evr-Green® family of electrical vehicle supply equipment. Rated to 40 amps of current or 9.7kW of power, the connector assembly also complies with the Society of Automotive Engineers J1772™ recommended standards.

“We have worked closely with our automaker partners to develop a safe and reliable connector assembly that is designed for more than 10,000 operating cycles – that’s more than 27 years of use,” said Manoj Karwa, Senior Director of EVSE Programs for Leviton’s Commercial and Industrial Business Unit. “The 40 amp charge connector assembly is in use in 3,000 dealers and in 11 different vehicle platforms as part of our 32 and 40 amp charging stations, creating a family of charging stations to meet the next generation of electric vehicles.”

Leviton is the Toyota-approved electric vehicle supply equipment provider for RAV4 EV and Prius Plug-in Level 2 (240V) charging needs. Toyota has partnered with Leviton to support Level 2 charging for Toyota customers, dealerships and corporate offices across the United States.

In order to abide by Leviton’s commitment to help create a sustainable environment, the Charge Connector Assembly utilizes an environmentally responsible and low carbon footprint connector housing. In instances of unauthorized use, a built-in anti-theft mechanism serves as protection. The connector assembly is available with 25 feet of flexible yet durable 8 awg electrical vehicle cable.

The Leviton 40 amp charge connector assembly meets or exceeds the stringent UL 2251 Plugs, Receptacles and Couplers for Electric Vehicles, UL 62 Flexible Cords and Cables and NEC 625 Electric Vehicle Charging System Equipment standards.
