3U, 175W Compact PCI power supply

November 14, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

MagneTek Inc. (Nashville, TN) recently introduced a 3U, 175W Compact PCI power supply. The multi-output, 175W module conforms to IEEE 3U by 160mm PCB format and is available with an ac or dc input. It features up to four outputs for applications in pluggable, redundant or hot swap systems specifically designed for advanced computer and digital communications. Other features include a Positronics 47 connector and an optional pinout is also available utilizing separate pins for the ac and dc inputs. The pinout provides dedicated pins for wiring the backplane for both ac and dc inputs, making the backplane universal. Output voltages of 2.0V, 3.3V, 5.0V, 12.0V and 15.0V are available from outputs V1 and V2 with a combined maximum power rating of 125W. Output V3, with voltages of 2.0V to 24.0V, provides peripherals with a maximum of 5A. Output V4 will deliver 1.5V at 2.0-15.0Vdc. The device is designed to serve both domestic and international markets and the PCI-2 offers a wide range, 40-72Vdc input or a universal 90-264Vac input with 0.99PFC, input transient protection, and inrush current limiting. The dc output and supervisory control functions include: output good, ac power fail, logic inhibit/enable, output power dereating, and current share. A bicolor LED indicates fault/OK power supply status. Protective circuitry includes overload, over-voltage, over-temperature, reverse voltage and open sense lead. In quantities of 100, pricing for the unit is $210 each.
