CUI Inc. has added a 2-W series to its second-generation isolated dc-dc converter family designed to deliver improved efficiency, isolation, and thermal performance compared to previous versions. The unregulated PDS2-M series is packaged in the same compact 8-pin surface-mount package as the existing 1-W PDS family, measuring 12.7 x 11.2 x 7.25 mm (0.50 x 0.44 x 0.29 in). The modules feature 1.5 kVdc I/O isolation and anti-static protection up to 8 kVdc. The PDS2-M series is designed with an ultra-wide operating temperature range of -40 to 105 degrees C, offering a reliable solution for converting and/or isolating dc rails within a variety of industrial, telecom, security, and machine control applications.

The series provides nominal inputs of 5-, 12-, 15-, and 24-Vdc and outputs of 3.3-, 5-, 9-, 12-, 15- and 24-Vdc. The dc-dc converters are highly efficient compared to other products in their class, delivering typical efficiencies up to 86%. To further enhance performance across the entire load curve, the modules have been designed to greatly reduce power draw under light and no load conditions.

The new family of dc-dc converters also comes standard with continuous short circuit protection, providing an additional layer of protection for sensitive loads. The PDS2-M is available immediately through distribution with prices starting at $6.41 per unit for 500 pieces.
